Marko Grujic opened his account in competitive senior football in England in brilliant fashion last night as he helped Cardiff City claim a crucial win over Barnsley.

The Serbian netted the Bluebirds' second just a minute into the second half, working space at the edge of the box with a drop of the shoulder before powering an effort beyond Nick Townsend.

Although the midfielder's involvement ended shortly after - Greg Halford replacing him in the 56th minute - his goal proved vital to claiming a 2-1 win.

Oliver McBurnie's strike four minutes after Grujic's withdrawal made for a nervy finish to proceedings for Neil Warnock's team, but they held out to stay on track for promotion to the Premier League.

Grujic has made eight Championship appearances since sealing his loan switch to Wales in January.
