Liverpool U18s made a special Christmas visit to Alder Hey Children's Hospital this afternoon to meet young patients and deliver gifts.

Steven Gerrard and his Reds squad visited the base in West Derby to spread some festive cheer among the youngsters currently on the wards there.

U18s midfielder Curtis Jones said: “It is great to be able to cheer the kids up by handing out gifts and meeting the children as they look to overcome illness.

“The kids are all really brave and keep smiling despite it being a really tough time of year for them to be in hospital. Visiting Alder Hey as a local lad is extra special and hopefully we have given the kids a lift ahead of Christmas.”

Gill Kennedy, from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, said: “A big thank-you to all the players and staff from the Academy for today’s visit. As with the first-team squad visit, this is now becoming a Christmas tradition here at Alder Hey.

“It was especially lovely to have Steven accompany the boys and share his experiences of the many visits he has made here at the hospital. This truly makes a difference to all our patients, families and staff.”
